Mini bus

Got a great deal on mini bus hire from local organisation.

Local organisation Derby Kids Camp hires out their mini bus to local organisations and charities when it is not in use, at a great rate. So for the Green Garden Project it was the ideal thing for transporting all the participants to Attenborough Nature Reserve for a day of sketching.

Metal working

Trials of enlisting help and outsourcing!

I have reached a point in my business where I can no longer fit in everything that I used to, so I have enlisted the help of a local fabrication firm to create the metal frames that are the frame work to my sculptures.

Feeling a little unsure about the whole process I arrived at the office to a warm welcome, the owner was very easy to talk to and listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions along the way.

Handing a part of your business over to someone else no matter how small, is sometimes a test of faith in someones capabilities and you hope that they will take the care and attention that you give to your own business.

But, I left feeling confident that they would recreate my sketches in metal to my satisfaction and save me some much needed time so that I can concentrate on other areas. Hopefully it will be the start of a good working relationship with another small business.

Photo shoot

The photo shoot went well with some great results.

Local photographer Chris visited me at my studio to create some professional studio shots of me weaving, welding and metal working. In addition there were also some styled shots with me posing with woven willow sculptures and my welding equipment in my best dress and heals.

The images will be for the new brochure to accompany me to the Chelsea Flower Show alongside PR for the event, so it was important to get a flavour of my work environment across to the viewer.

The finished photo’s will be uploaded soon for you to see.

Green Garden Project-Workshop 2

Session 2 of the Green Garden Project workshops at Long Eaton Art Rooms created quite a buzz.

Today people wanting to join in with the Green Garden Project gathered in the library at Long Eaton Art Rooms for an informal chat about the project and an introduction from the artist that’s me.

It went very well, and everyone who attended the meet and great signed up to take part in this exciting project and where looking forward to the coming weeks. It created a real buzz when I told them that 2 lucky participants where going to be given a free ticket to come to the Chelsea Flower Show and to see what their hard work had contributed towards.

Some of the comments from today:

“I was going to stay home today and not bother coming, but I’m glad I did because it sounds a really interesting project”

“I think I will really enjoy this project”

“I love the colours of the plants that will go with the sculptures”

“I’ve tried lots of different arts but I think I could really get into working with willow”
