Long Eaton Art Rooms

Workshops sessions have been booked at Long Eaton Art Rooms.

This is a great local facility for the Long Eaton and surrounding area, it offers many types of art forms and workshops alongside a well stocked library of art and craft books and a lovely little coffee shop. Just the place to get creative and enjoy a coffee.

The workshops sessions will be starting at the end of February, so not long to go now!

Chelsea Garden Giveaway

Win the sculptures from the Chelsea Flower Show!

Care homes across Erewash will soon be eligible to enter into my new competition with the grand prize being the garden and sculptures that will be showcased at the Chelsea Flower Show 2010.

Details of the competition will be posted shortly on my web site to co-inside with the press release.

The competition is only open to care homes or facilities that care for the elderly within the Erewash Borough, this is my way of thanking the kind support of the Arts Development Team at Erewash Council. The pilot project to secure the funding required for the Chelsea Flower Show, was funded by the Small Arts Grant from Erewash Council and without their continued support this project would not have been possible.

Special thanks to Laura and Jo

Reg Taylors

More great news today, Reg Taylors Garden Centre have offered their help with Chelsea Flower Show.

They are kindly providing a large number of Fern and Lavender plants for the stand to accompany some of the wild flower plants which will make up the planting scheme.

Many thanks to the Taylor family for providing their support.

Derby University Investment

Great news today, Derby University is due to invest in my visit to RHS Chelsea Flower Show by covering the cost of my show brochures.

Brochures are an important part of exhibiting as it allows me to get plenty of information across to the visitors of the show. The brochure will have plenty of space to talk about me and my work, the Green Garden Project and the participants, and of course allow me to print my thanks to the many people and organisations that have helped me get to Chelsea.

Thanks to Laura in the Alumni dept of Derby Uni for all the help and support and securing me the investment. It’s great to know that even after leaving the comfort of the University, there is still help and support for graduates.

Storage and Shelter

Found a lovely shed company on line that has full FSC certificated sheds, one in-particular is a corner shed that will fit in lovely with my design.

It would allow plenty of space to house all my parifinalia and allow me to offer people the chance to sit and have a coffee with me on my stand if they wanted to talk about my work.

Looking into colour schemes of wood preserve to ensure that the colours blend well with the overall design of the stand.

Venues and Care Homes

Been having a think about venues for the Green Garden project, going to have a look at Long Eaton Art Rooms next week as a possible venue to teach participants sculpture making during the sessions.

Also researching into care homes for the elderly in the Erewash Borough, Ideally I would like to find a care home that has an activities co-ordinator, a garden that would accommodate the sculpture after it’s been shown at Chelsea but most importantly residents who would benefit from the enjoyment of having sculpture in their garden.

It would be great to get some of the residents of the chosen care home interested in the project so to get their input on the final design.

Preparing for Chelsea

Have begun to go through all my research and organise everything in preparation for Chelsea, although I do not have my allocation for the Chelsea Flower Show yet, thought it would be best to start the ball rolling.

Made appointments with my sponsors, my Arts Development Officer, my PR lady, my Marketing lady and my new plants-man.

The plants-man is a young lad called Oliver who has started up his own business specialising in Conservation and Garden Design, in return for a mention on all my brochures he is going to put together a plant list and start to grow some of the pants required for the show.

It’s so difficult trying to keep a very tight budget, but hopefully by creating new working relationships with other small businesses we can try to help each other out.

Still no word from RHS on my allocation, waiting is very frustrating at times all I want to do is start the project now!

We will see if the post brings any news this week
